What subjects do you tutor?
The short answer is writing; the long answer is all things related to writing—including reading, AP English, upper level literature classes, or essays you might be assigned for, say, history class. We love writing and excel at teaching others how to find writing more accessible—and even enjoyable!
When you contact us, tell us about your tutoring needs and we will let you know what we can and cannot offer! Don’t be shy; we welcome all questions.
What makes Write Well Austin a good option for our family?
We know that tutoring isn’t “one size fits all,” and we also know that students receiving the right kind of guidance and support will thrive. We therefore focus on concrete writing tools as well as creating a positive, nurturing relationship with the student. We want our own exuberant love of writing to be a source of energy and inspiration for our students, as we teach them specific tools for growing their writing.
Additionally, we are highly educated at a graduate level, are experienced teachers, and also have the unique ability to connect with various personalities. We are patient, kind, present, and helpful. We know how to encourage students to discover empowerment in their learning and their writing, rather than feel overwhelmed or bogged down by it. We are sensitive to a student’s academic needs as well as their personality.
Write Well Austin’s ultimate goal is to help each child navigate both writing and any growing pains along the way with a greater sense of ease.
Do you work with college students?
Short answer: No…but we wish! We used to work with college students, but have since honed our focus to K-12. However, we have excellent local resources to share with you. If you are looking for a college tutor, reach out to us and we will help point you in the right direction.
I’d like to start work on a [novel, memoir, or other long-term project]. Do you offer writing coaching for adults?
Short answer: No…but we wish! We LOVE coaching adults—but we have found our best work is with young people. We do have some fantastic referrals for you, however, do don’t hesitate to reach out and we can point you toward some excellent resources who work regularly with adults.
Where do you tutor?
As of October, 2017, Write Well Austin will be located in the Clarksville/downtown area, just off Lamar, at 1215 Parkway! We are excited to make the most out of our work with young people in a cozy, beautiful, learning-friendly environment.
In the mean time, we will continue to meet at a central, neutral location, like a downtown café, a library, or your child’s school. When we are able to do so, we provide in-home tutoring—though please note that this is not always a service we are able to provide! We try to get to as many students as possible outside of the school day—and this means we need to limit travel time, as we can’t very well meet with students while driving on Mopac or I-35. When we move into our new space, we will only host students at this location.
Do you offer Skype or Facetime services if we’re out of town or located outside of Austin?
Yes, absolutely. Hours are limited to midday, late evening, and weekends. Rates are the same as in-person tutoring.
What are your qualifications?
All tutors at Write Well Austin hold graduate degrees in the field of writing, whether a Masters or a Masters of Fine Arts, and are published writers. All tutors hold classroom teaching experience along with tutoring experience, and all tutors are truly outstanding at connecting with young people. Do you still offer classes and workshops?
Yes, but our workshops have shifted focus. We now limit our offerings to kids, and most workshops are offered during the school day for the homeschool community. We no longer offer workshops on weekends.
How much does this cost?
We don’t share our rates online, but feel free to contact Ashleigh to request this information!
