WHY “RETREAT”:

By stepping away from ordinary life and into a retreat, we receive the kind of deep nurturing, and nuanced experiences, that our day-to-day lifestyle does not typically support. This particular retreat invites a deeper connection to the abundant life both around and within us, through writing, meditation, and time to unwind and rejuvenate on the lush, fertile island of Molokai. Meditation and gentle movement each morning will ground us; writing will allow us to access, express, and process our rich inner worlds.

Please know that this retreat is for writers (or non-writers) of any level—from those who simply have a desire to explore what writing offers them to those who hold professional writing careers. All are truly welcome.

Experiencing the Hui:

The Hui Ho’olana is located in the very heart of Molokai on fertile, ancient land (the island is known as the “heart chakra” of the Hawaiian chain), where King Kamehameha himself once lived and ruled. Surrounded by native vegetation, with the ocean—and often a rainbow—in the distance, “the Hui” provides an exceptionally unique experience for its visitors—nurturing without being a resort, homegrown while maintaining a high level of comfort and beauty. Additionally, the warm Hui staff members provide their guests with fantastic, nutritious meals three times a day (with fruits and vegetables straight from their garden); beautiful trails to wander; a gorgeous saltwater swimming pool and peaceful gardens; outdoor clawfoot bathtubs (have you ever bathed under the stars?); space to meditate; and a huge, open-arms welcome that allows everyone to feel truly at home.

Retreat Co-Facilitators:

Ashleigh Pedersen is a fiction writer, teacher, and the founder of Write Well Austin. Ashleigh is especially skilled at facilitating a warm, welcoming, and laughter-filled environment in which writers of any age and ability are free to explore their inner worlds, connect to nature, and use writing as a tool for meaningful self-expression.

Morgan Osmani is a psychotherapist, yoga teacher, and founder of Embody Life, a non-profit organization in Austin, Texas. Morgan has facilitated no fewer than eleven retreats at the Hui, and is adept in facilitating growth and discovery through group discussion, meditation, and body-centered healing practices. A PhD candidate in spiritual psychology, Morgan brings a vast range of resources to group retreats.
