Ashleigh is amazing! She tutors our middle school son, primarily in English but also in other subjects (e.g. history) where writing is needed. She is a warm and caring person who has a unique ability to form connections with people – my very shy son immediately clicked with her. She has built my son’s confidence and inspired him to do more than he thought he was capable of. She has also helped him develop his own self advocacy skills while running interference for him with his teachers when needed. Not sure how we would have made it through the school year without her.
Both my son and my daughter have also participated in her writing workshops and had a great time. I attended one myself at the Writing Barn (what a beautiful spot!) and left feeling inspired to keep writing. I plan to attend more in the future.
If I could give 6 stars I would. Highly recommend!

Ashleigh truly has a unique gift for working with kids and teens. She was able to give my middle-schooler a new perspective on writing so that it didn’t feel like such a chore. After seeing how my daughter blossomed under her tutelage, I decided to start earlier with my 3rd grader he just adores her. I cannot recommend her enough.

Both my kids Maddie 14 and Brennan 16 have attended some of Ashleigh’s workshops and Brennan has had Ashleigh as his tutor going on 2 years now. Not enough stars or space available to tout the unique abilities and talents of Ashleigh. While her technical skills are exceptional, it is her wonderful ability to connect with kids on their level, and help them discover a voice they possibly didn’t know they had. Aside from being a complete ninja of an educator she is a wonderful person with a beautiful soul. Our family not only got a great teacher/tutor but a friend as well.

My son (now a high school senior) has always been very averse to working with tutors. However, he agreed to work with Corey and has seen great benefits and really enjoyed the process. He initially started seeing Corey for help with his college essays. Those essays got him accepted into his 1st choice college early admission (with a scholarship!). After that he asked to keep working with Corey for general help with his schoolwork. It’s been wonderful to see him doing well in school, less stressed about homework, and gaining skills he’ll need next year in college.
I’ve taken two different seminars with Ashleigh through Write Well Austin, and by far they have been the most heartwarming, insightful, and thoughtful courses I have taken in a while. Ashleigh provides such a positive presence in front of her students. In both of my adult writing seminars, I’ve been lucky enough to become close with each group of writers across ages, experiences, backgrounds, etc. She does an incredible job providing a sense of community and challenging each writer through deeply thought provoking prompts. Most importantly, Ashleigh brings her heart to each of her classes–her passion for people and for the written word was evident from the moment I met her. So grateful to have gotten the chance to learn from her!
I purchased the Scary Stories Workshop as a birthday surprise for my creative and spooky daughter. She LOVED the writing workshop for middle-schoolers at the famous Driskill Hotel. What a great idea, Ashleigh! Thank you for fitting her (and her BFF) in at the last minute. They had a great time! Also, spooky daughter came home with a solid start on her own scary story.
My middle school aged daughter has loved all the classes she has taken with Ashleigh. Besides coming up with engaging writing lessons, she just connects really well with that age kid I think – and has a way of making the group of kids feel comfortable amongst each other too. The one-on-one tutoring has been invaluable too – as my daughter loves to talk about and get feedback on her writing – and Ashleigh knows just when to encourage and when to push.
We are so fortunate to have found Ashleigh through my daughter who attended her essay workshop in high school. My daughter loved working with Ashleigh. She was truly inspired to write well and as a result says “she writes way better and feels more prepared to write well in college as well” My son who is 12-year-old also started tutoring with Ashleigh recently and enjoys working with her. Ashleigh really takes the time to connect with children first and inspire in them a love for writing. She is knowledgeable about her subject and has a fun and compassionate spirit.
The support and guidance Ashleigh gave my daughter as she prepared for college was invaluable. My daughter is now living her dream. I wish she was in Oakland for continued tutoring.
Ashleigh is the first tutor that has truly connected with the kids in a meaningful way and the best advocate for them that we could have hoped for; she is the greatest.
